more gallery work.

New personal painting. I'm having a great time just painting up a storm every day. This one did not scan well at all. Unprimed wood just sucks in the light from the scanner. Oh well, it's meant to be seen in person, and the wood grain looks cool. This is a little larger than the last 2, it's 16x20.

Etsy Store

I added a bunch of artwork to my Etsy They're all things that I won't be showing ever again, and I priced them to move. I want to start adding the tens of little drawings I have in folders all about, but it's kind-of a tedious process.

New personal paintings

I'm working on more gallery stuff. When I'm painting for myself I can do a piece every couple days, and I get to paint whatever I want. I'm banking on the idea that I will be able to sell these things though, but I don't think they'll cost very much so it will be do-able. Anyway, this is part of an on-going exploration, so expect to see more in the future.

Links etc.

I redesigned my website, and I took out the links to all my friends and other artists I admire. I feel kinda bad about it, but I love how stripped down my site is, so I started adding blogs of my friends and of other artists to this page. Anyway, painting for myself in the studio today. As soon as I finish this coffee.....

New website

I launched the fifth version of my website today. For a while now I've been thinking about how unnecessary most of it was. So I made a new one, and I think that it very well may be the simplest portfolio site ever. The biggest cut was the links. Having a massive collection of links on your site seemed pointless to me, and I didn't like people feeling slighted if they weren't on there. Also the large image on the front of the man and woman holding hands was largely there to look cool, so, gone. Then the news section was not what I thought it would be. It was always "I added this painting, and removed this one." Gone. Instead I have the "last update" which I instated because I think that most people come to the site every so often to see if I have something new up, and so if that hasn't changed, they can move on. Also I took out all of the shirt designs in my portfolio. I think that a portfolio should be both your best work, and the work that reflects what you WANT to do. My shirt work is neither. Most of the time I can't use enough colors to make it special, and I prefer painting above everything else. I'd love to take out older work as well, like anything I did while I was in school, but sadly that would leave my portfolio very thin, and many paintings I did as a student remain the most popular.

Facebook Fan Page

I now have a Facebook Fan Page. I'm not really sure what I'll do with it yet, but it was really easy to set up. I'll use it as a more expansive portfolio site, including sketchbook pages and work I no longer have on my main site. Also I can notify people of my art shows and whatever else I'm up to pretty easily. I could do that on Myspace as well I suppose, but I'm not keen on that site, and it seems like people are using it less and less. Certainly I am.
